At Joel’s request, here is the story of the lost fountain:
First, some background… Matt stays two nights a week (Monday & Wednesday) at his mom’s house to save a little time and gasoline on his weekly commute. When I’m the only human in the apartment, I like to leave the bedroom door open so I have a little light from the bathroom nightlight… just in case. This means that the cat gets to come into the bedroom on those nights. Lately, we’ve been shutting the door when we’re sleeping because Ratzi has a BAD habit of disturbing Matt’s sleep. Usually, I sleep like a log & there’s no such thing as waking me up at 2am.
On Wednesday night, the cat & I turned in for the night at a reasonable hour. I was sound asleep when, at 2:11 am, I was jolted awake by a horrible crashing sound. Ratzi had managed to knock over the decorative fountain on the other side of the room. I assessed the damage in the shadows, which was a mistake. Because I didn’t hear the cat, and because of the way the water spilled out of the fountain, I thought for a little bit that maybe the cat was UNDER the fountain. I turned on the light, my depth perception started functioning and I realized that the cat was hiding in the corner, probably scared that he was in trouble.
I spent about 10 minutes cleaning up the worst of the water, then shut the cat out of the room & tried to go back to sleep. No such luck. I did finally get a little bit of a nap at about 4:30, but then I had to get back up at 5:00 to go to work. I left work early because I was about ready to fall asleep at my desk. I got another short nap after work while waiting for Matt to get home, but none of the napping was real sleep. I was wake for way too long yesterday & it was all the cat’s fault. What a brat.
