Habemus House!

(seriously that’s the best & only phrase I know in Latin… it’s great!)
I have a garage door opener sitting in front of me. I love it :)
Closing went off without a hitch this morning. The previous owners seem like *really* great people and they’re only moving about a mile or so away (building a new house) so that helps to reassure me that the area where we’re going to live is a nice place to raise a family. We have school aged kids on either side of us so hopefully by the time we have some kids of our own we’ll have some convenient baby-sitters :)
We got a whole envelope full of useful stuff from the previous owners including instructions for just about everything they ever installed in the house (dishwasher, faucets, etc) and even some pictures of the way the house looked when they bought it and some pics from when they remodeled the bathroom. I’m hoping to scan & post those tonight on in the gallery and I already took some pics so that we have our own “before & after.” Those I’ll have to get developed (I’m stubborn & haven’t gone digital yet) so it might be a bit ’til I figure out where it’s safe to leave my film down there, lol.
Pictures can be seen here as our work progresses.

Two Days!!

Only two more days until we close on our very first house!! Pictures can be seen here. Right now, the pictures are from the real estate listing. In the near future I’ll be adding some “before,” “during” and “after” pictures of our moving adventure. The big move is set for the very end of June or very beginning of July to give us plenty of time to get things cleaned up & painted and to plan where everything will go.

In other news, my foot is on the mend. Hopefully I’ll be able to ditch the crutches very very soon.

Crazy Week Update

I had my bloodwork on Tuesday afternoon without any major catastrophy. We met with the Mortgage Man, too, and that went well. Wednesday, my HSG went well & those results were good. I did find out that I have to have some further testing on my thyroid, though. Whoda thunk a skinny little nothin’ like me would have a thyroid issue? My surgery today was absolutely fine. I was asleep for the whole thing & I was told that I snored. (no surprises there!) I was in pain for a little while in the recovery room but they couldn’t find my dr to get him to sign off on my happy drugs. By the time they did find him, I wasn’t in pain anymore. Mostly I just can’t seem to get comfortable, but I have the happy drugs for if/when I do need them.
Matt’s leaving shortly to spend the night at his mom’s because he has to be in West Virginia ASAP tomorrow morning, so I’ll be on my own for probably about 24 hours. It should be an interesting adventure. Luckily, I have an excess of peanut butter toast supplies. And string cheese.

House Inspection – Check!

Matt just called with a brief update on our house inspection. He went without me because I’m already taking a bunch of time off from work this week and because I just didn’t feel like driving that far and then having to come back tonight.
The home inspector said we’ll need to get some dry wall installed in the garage ceiling and have a railing repaired on the front steps for safety purposes. He said those are things he’d at least try to negotiate with the sellers to get taken care of quickly.
He also had suggestions about the basement stairs. He said the railings stuck out too far and that if we wanted to replace them (which we do – there’s pretty much zero space between the bottom step and the wall) we could make the stairs a little bit steeper & it’d give us the space we want/need at the bottom of the stairs. He also showed Matt a few places where he could improve the already awesome insulation job to make it even better and pointed out a problem with a drain in the basement bathroom (nothing a little drano and/or some sealant won’t fix).
Next step is to talk to our realtor about how we go about negotiating to get those two safety issues resolved. Tomorrow night we meet with the Mortgage Man :)
