I Think I Hear the Shop-Vac
We were at a picnic this evening and my husband was sucked into wanting a cat again. The hosts of the picnic have some very cute free kittens that need homes, so we *might* be getting one. We need to check with the landlords (we’re thinking they’ll say yes because the other tenants have a yippy dog), price the routine vet stuff to see if it’s in the budget and see if we can acquire any free kitty stuff from Matt’s mom. This is Matt’s incentive to get himself a job.
What do I think of all this? I’m scared to death. I’ve never owned an animal that could puke on my carpet. I’m used to only ever having fish… speaking of, we got a new Betta for our anniversary. His name is Newton and I can’t believe I haven’t mentioned him sooner.
If we get this kitten, he’s going to need a name. We’re looking for a naming gimic, something that we can continue with if we get more cats someday. The fish gimic is that our fish will be named after mathematicians, so I’m looking for something a bit more exciting for cats. Any suggestions?

Maybe after mystery writers? Agatha Christie, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle for example?
Favorite saint names? Good luck with the cat. DH and I have had 4 cats in the past (2 cats at two different times) and never again! I refuse…I’ve got a thing against hair…I’m so mean, I know, lol. Besides, none of our cats ever liked me, just dh. (Maybe that contributes to why I won’t let dh get any more ;) Haha!
1) Cats rule. :)
2) How about Karol or JP, after the late pope?
3) or Benny, after the current pope?
I HIGHLY recommend a kitten – in fact, I am currently talking Andy into letting me get another baby. (Speaking of babies, I read your away message and thought baby baby =D) Our cat is 3 1/2 now, and we’ve had him for about 2 years… we have some problems – because he wasn’t fixed sooner and he has a little bit of a problem with wee-ing on things =/ BUT now that he’s fixed it is only a problem now and then. But he’s the best.. he’s adorable. He keeps you warm in the winter… hot in the summer hehe. He loves curling up with me and he totally knows when I’m in a bad mood and he lies on my lap being all lovey. And Andy – that’s HIS darling. He won’t admit it but it’s HIS cat… and he babies/spoils/loves him to death. The day that he started calling himself “daddy” I nearly died =)… don’t be worried at all about having a cat… they are pretty self sufficient and yeah they puke on the carpet now and then, but make Matt clean that up hehe.
As for names – it depends on if it’s a boy or a girl. When/If/WHEN Andy let’s me get a brother or sister for Saturn (not the name we picked for him, that was the previous owner’s choice) I’m going Fraggle – boy or girl it’s name will be Wembley. I’m stuck on saint names myself.. If it wasn’t going to be Wembley it’d be something like Alexander or Abigail. And it depends on what the kitten looks like. Saturn got his name because he has rings on his tail. We call him Saturn only when he’s bad. His nickname is Stinky cuz.. well.. he pees on stuff & its stinky!!
I’m amused that two of the names that have been suggested are at the top of our lists for our future children.
I liked the Pope ideas… but not necessarily the recent Popes, so I tried talking Matt into something fun like Urban or Leo or Pius, but no such luck. I have him contemplating the saint idea at the moment… if you’ve never seen FODI, the Matt character has that alien daughter named Zita (chosen randomly from my “Saint-a-day” book, but also the name of a Sister who is a friend of a friend). I told him we could name the cat Zita & it could be like his “real-life” alien child.
I like the authors idea, too, but it might have to be more like sci-fi or children’s literature… Agatha Christie & Sir Arthur Conan Doyle are about the only mystery writers I can actually think of, lol.
Thanks for all the awesome suggestions! Anybody happen to know a cheap vet in the “middle-western” section of PA?
How about………
Ender
Petra (Girl Name)
Castor
Pollux
Hazel (Girl Name)
Manuel
Bernardo
Mycroft (Sherlock Holme’s Brother)
Meade (Girl Name)
(Yes, all those names come from books.:-p)
If you’re going to consider Ender, how about Bean?
You don’t live in Allegheny county, do you? If you go to Animal Friends, they have some resources. They say in their ABC section that they have resources for outside of the county… Through their program, I paid I think 60 bucks to get Saturn fixed and get him completely up to date on his shots. Anyways, their resources page is really great.
And Beans the Bunny totally rocks.
