Better than Getting Married

With just a little over two weeks until Matt is finally baptized and fully initiated into the Church, I’m starting to realize that this is MUCH better than getting married. Fewer things to plan and/or coordinate, fewer expenses, more excitement and, best of all, my mom is cooking.

And as we prepare to conclude our lenten journeying, Matt got a bit of good news in his quest for perfect employment. He has a job interview on Tuesday. What a marvelous Easter present it would be if he could get an offer.

Say some extra prayers if you have time!

Amy Is My Godmother

This past weekend I got elected. Or became a member of the elect. Or I had my rite of election. Whichever way you’d wish to say it, I went down (up?) to Erie and participated in the rite of election with all the other candidates and catechumen. Hopefully at least one of them is comfortable with their ability to spell that word. It was a pretty awe-inspiring event, as tons of people were there to take yet another step on their journey towards becoming Catholic.

While I can’t remember his exact words, Bishop Trautman was immensely welcoming. His words and tone, and they way he looked at me just radiated a sense of welcome and was filled with total genuiness (which may or may not be a word). It was such a wonderful feeling, and you should all go out and experience it right now. Or maybe next year. Either way, it made me feel like this was absolutely the right path for me to be on.

I also find it tremendously amusing that Amy is my godparent, just because I can imagine having that conversation with our future children. Let the good times roll.

Five More Days

Only five more days until the 9th anniversary of an event that forever changed my life. I won’t write the details here to protect those involved, but if you think about it, say a prayer for me and for my friend on the 20th.

On a lighter note, Number 1 cousin turns 21 that same day. I’m proud of him. Number 2 cousin turns 16 on the 24th. I’m proud of her, too. The list of birthdays wouldn’t be complete without Number 3 cousin’s birthday right in the middle on the 22nd. And you guessed it, I’m proud of her.

While we’re talking about birthdays and anniversaries, today marks 27 years for my sister-in-law, 24 for Mr. S. and 2 years of wedded bliss for Mr. & Mrs. H.

Big Fun at the Big Church

Tomorrow, the first Sunday of Lent, Mr. B & I will travel to the cathedral in Erie for the Rite of Election. He/we’ll participate in this rite with the rest of the RCIA class, but the rest of the journey to Easter Vigil will be celebrated at the parish where we were married because we spend our Sunday mornings there. Even though this is only the second major rite, it feels good to finally be in the home stretch on this section of our journey together.

Please remember everyone who has a hand in the RCIA process tomorrow as the journey towards Easter Vigil continues.

Outline

Elena at My Domestic Church gives us an outline of a talk she and her husband are preparing to give at a Pre-Cana session. Give it a read, if only for the fact that she & Mr. Pete were married exactly one day before my parents.
